SVLUG Events Calendar
SVLUG's regularly-recurring events are the general meeting, the Hacking Society
dinner, and the workshop / installfest.
- A long-time SVLUG member maintains a general events listing for the
area (BALE) at
- http://linuxmafia.com/bale/
One-time events we've had:
- February 13, 2000:
"Launch Win2K on a Rocket" —
SVLUG will once again spoof Microsoft's product launch events
by literally
launching Win2K on a rocket
on Sunday, February 13, 2000 at 2PM.
Real Win2K CDs were cut in half to make the rocket's fins.
We'll go have pizza afterward at 5PM.
- March 20, 1999:
"Linux Night at KTEH" —
SVLUG and sbay.org volunteers will handle the phones
for KTEH Public Television's pledge drive
(and appear on TV during pledge breaks)
from 6PM to 11:45PM on Saturday March 20.
- March 3, 1999:
Panel Discussion —
"Running an Effective Linux User Group"
at SVLUG's March 1999 meeting co-located at the LinuxWorld Expo
at the San Jose Convention Center.
- February 15, 1999:
Windows Refund Day:
150+ Linux and FreeBSD users march on
Microsoft's Bay Area sales office to demand refunds.
Their user license says we must return the product for a refund,
if we don't agree to its terms.
After saying (even to the press) that the office would be open,
MS locked the doors and literally reprogrammed the elevators to keep us out.
No one got a refund.
We didn't expect to, but the point was clear.
